The Nature-Culture Walk is our most popular guided walking tour. It combines interesting, entertaining and interactive activities, with an easy-paced trek through beautiful New Zealand native forest

Rotopunamu early morning

Each of pureORAwalk's Nature-Culture Walking Tours sets out from one of three stunning Central North Island locations:

Lake Rotopounamu Track

  • In Tongariro National Park (just south of Turangi)
  • Duration: 4 hours
  • The Lake Rotopounamu track winds through outstanding native forest to the secluded and picturesque white sands of the lake

Rimu Track

  • In the Pureora Forest Park, northeast of Lake Taupo
  • Duration: 4 hours
  • The Rimu track follows the Kakaho Stream through dense rimu forest before climbing to an expansive viewing point

Whirinaki River Road Loop Track

  • The Whirinaki River Road loop track is a longer walk
  • Duration: 4-6 hours
  • Begin with a short walk through the forest to the Whirinaki River, then continue along the river track, with Mt Moerangi to your left
  • The loop track trails through the densest Rimu forest found in New Zealand, to the beautiful Whirinaki Falls

All walking tracks are easy-grade and transport to and from the bushwalk locations can be arranged by pureORAwalks.

Each fully guided tour includes:

  • Relaxed guiding with Maori guides whose ancestors have used the Central Plateau and Taupo forest resources for centuries.
