Overnight & Under the Stars - Go Bush Camp

The Go Bush campsite is situated on 3,000 acres of private forest land and can be accessed off State Highway 41 halfway between Taumarunui and Lake Taupo. The camp site is easily accessible from either the Whanganui River (2hrs drive), Turangi, Chateau Tongariro, Mt Ruapehu skifields (1hr drive), Hamilton and Rotorua (3hr drive).

The Go Bush campsite is close to the world heritage Tongariro National Park. On a clear day there are spectacular views of the Central North Island Volcanoes; Mt Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. This unique eco-cultural, guided walking experience is not to be missed!

The Go Bush campsite, close to Tongariro National Park, offers the perfect opportunity to get off the beaten track and away from standard tourist attractions. The campsite is just a short drive from Taupo, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Let our Maoir tour guides take you on an adventure back in time. pureORAwalk's guided NZ bushwalks will give you an insight into the many Maori myths and legends of their rich history. You will also learn about the native New Zealand flora and fauna which decorate the Central North Island's beautiful forest parks.

Your camping experience will include:

  • Stress-free guiding with Maori guides whose ancestors have used the forest resources for centuries
  • All camping equipment (tents, bedding, and other equipment [alcohol not included, cash bar available]) is provided. Just bring your own personal necessities
  • Sit around the campfire in the evening and toast marshmallows
  • Storytelling (Purakau) – hear the stories, myths and legends of Aotearoa and local iwi (tribes)
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided, and are arranged when you book. Organic and indigenous inspired food options are available on request
  • Guided Nature-Culture Walk- Includes interpretation of how Maori utilised the forest resources
  • Cultural Activity – learn how to make Maori handcrafts. Your choice of weaving a flower, carving pumice, or making poi. Choose your activity when you book, and take home your very own taonga (treasure)
  • Hot tub – Enjoy a relaxing soak in an outdoor hot tub in a natural setting and sooth your body and soul.
